Freelancers faced technical and operational challenges affecting data accuracy and efficiency. Poor app performance, weak network coverage, and language barriers hindered navigation, while inaccurate tracking and transcription issues impacted data quality.

We optimized usability, accessibility, and performance for freelancers in challenging environments. The design ensured seamless navigation and device compatibility, while development focused on geolocation accuracy and automated transcription for reliable data collection.

Defining Goals

Freelancers conducting market research faced multiple operational and technical challenges that impacted data collection efficiency and accuracy. The primary issues included poor app performance due to low-end devices and weak network coverage, language barriers that made navigation and task completion difficult, and a lack of precise tracking for surveyed locations, leading to duplicate or missing data. Additionally, the reliance on voice recordings in Bahasa created challenges in transcription and data synthesis, further affecting the quality of insights gathered.

Freelancers conducting surveys struggled with app performance, language barriers, and inefficient tracking methods, leading to delays, inaccurate data, and difficulties in completing tasks effectively.

Our Approach to designing

The design approach focused on enhancing usability, accessibility, and efficiency for freelancers working in challenging environments. Key considerations included ensuring seamless navigation in multiple languages, optimizing the interface for low-end devices, and improving the accuracy of location tracking and data entry.

1. User Research & Problem Identification

  • Conducted interviews to understand usability challenges, network limitations, and language barriers.

2. Localization & Language Accessibility

  • Designed multilingual support, allowing users to select their preferred language (including Bahasa) for easier task completion.

3. Simplified Video Upload Workflow

  • Introduced an "Upload Test" feature to help users gauge network strength and implemented a clear visual indication of upload progress.

4. Improved Survey Location Tracking

  • Optimized the UI to display hyper-accurate location data (Latitude-Longitude to the 10th decimal place) to prevent duplicate or missed surveys

Our Approach to Development

The development approach focused on performance optimization, accurate geolocation tracking, and automated transcription to enhance data collection efficiency. The key goal was to ensure the app functioned reliably even under poor network conditions and on low-end devices.

1. Network Performance Optimization

  • Implemented a video compression mechanism to reduce file sizes and ensure faster uploads

2. Batch Upload System

  • Developed a queuing mechanism that allowed freelancers to batch upload videos based on network strength, preventing failed uploads

3. Accurate Location Tracking

  • Integrated highly precise GPS tracking, storing Lat-Lng to the 10th decimal place to improve survey accuracy

4. Automated Voice-to-Text Processing

  • Implemented voice-to-text algorithms to transcribe voice notes into text, automatically storing them in the database for easy retrieval and analysis
